Government of Zulia in Venezuela paralyzed production of the only laboratory that makes antibiotics in the country

In the middle of the crisis of medicines that crosses Venezuela, without order of the Ministry of the Health or other competent instances, representatives of the Governorate of Zulia took of arbitrary way the plant of production of the SM Farma laboratory, located in the city of Maracaibo.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of Wednesday. A commission of police officers was presented with the verbal "notification" of the taking of the infrastructure. As reported by local workers, there was no record or any office to support the execution of the measure.

At this time more than 300 workers of the company are in the external part of the plant, before the order of the regional Executive that prevents them from entering their jobs.

Currently SM Farma is considered the largest producer of medicines in Venezuela. A worker from the company explained that this laboratory is the only one manufacturing losartan potassium, metformin, azithromycin, carbamazepine and the entire line of antibiotics for sale at a regulated price.
